Goodbye Oscars, Hello Maccabees!
After weeks of preparation, the red carpet finally rolled out into the auditorium. In front of a sea of determined paparazzi and excited fans, the nominees gracefully walked down the red carpet, adorned in garb of unmatched taste. Everyone gathered beside the carpet, watching the nominees make their entrance, wondering what was in store for them. What could possibly bring faculty members and students alike to such a state of togetherness and excitement? The Hebrew Academy Awards, of course!
“Who will bring home a Maccabee?” The answer to this question is what kept students and teachers in the auditorium laughing together and enjoying themselves on the fifth night of Chanuka. Students and teachers were nominated for a wide range of categories, including “Hardest Test,” “Most Productive Club,” and “Best Accent.” Complete with clips for each nominee, skits, antics by the hosts, and even commercials, the HA Awards was a truly professional production. The Awards celebrated the students’ love for the school and their teachers, providing sidesplitting humor enjoyed by everyone present.
The event kicked off with a brand new HA rendition of Adam Sandler’s Chanuka Song performed by Alex Jaffe and Josh Rosenblatt, who hosted the event. Other hosts, including Yechiel Ciment, Benjy Abramowitz, Jenna Galbut and Maya Jaffe, came up to present some of the coveted Maccabees. The video clips, skits and commercials, devised by screenwriters Benjy Abramowitz and Alex Jaffe and videotaped by cinematic prodigies Adam Tepler and Hailey Lipcon, truly captured the nominees, and were all woven together to make the presentation by executive director and Student Council president Daniel Redlich. Student Council did a fantastic job of producing a fun, enjoyable, school spirit-raising event.
